Interior Architecture

Interior architects, thanks to their analytical capacity, will direct their work to the layout, restructuring and optimisation of spaces within the private and public domains, taking into account the intimate scale of daily life.  Artist, technician, he/she is the direct contact for the projects, from the smallest to the most ambitious. Their skills are centred around 3 main focus points: listen, design and organise.

Two complementary axes

Interior Architecture has two distinct but complementary axes:

  •  “the architecture”, which confronts human beings with the environment, in their relationship with others.

  •  “the interior” is essentially devoted to the practical, daily life of human beings, of individuals as such, and to improving their living conditions.

The Interior Architecture students are, consequently, called upon to think about humans living and interacting in an imposed environment, to question this and to propose creative answers, while still respecting a number of technical constraints.

The training programme for Interior Architecture should in fact develop the student’s artistic thinking, while at the same time allowing the student to acquire technical knowledge of architecture and furniture.

Being an Interior Architecture student

The student must be able to complete the layout of private or public spaces, real or virtual, of increasing amplitude. They must constantly question themselves, stay informed, be curious about culture, materials, etc.

In order to harness and develop their creative streak, to discover their own identity, their own language and sense of aesthetics, they will learn to communicate using technical plans, sketches and photos, to integrate colour into a space and to visualise it in 3 dimensions using computer programs and models, to explore the idea of volume from different angles, they will study new technologies and new materials, create furnishings that respond to a specific request, etc.

During the 3 years of Bachelor studies, the emphasis is placed on the discovery of an architectural technical language, on learning how to locate the body in space and on the acquisition of a basic plastic vocabulary, a working methodology and an autonomous search for information.

The two years of Master studies are devoted to mastering and managing the implementation of a project. This is only made possible by the acquisition of a creative autonomy, the knowledge of the technical vocabulary used by the different trades and by achieving a high level of professional standards.

  • Winners of the competition “TREMPLIN POUR LE DESIGN” organised by RTL-TVI for the television programme “CLE SUR PORTE”. At the request of the Anneessens neighbourhood community centre – Brussels & MAD IN SITU (workshops for designers of MAD BRUSSELS), the students of the Tournai Academy of Fine Arts devised a real participation process via the MOBICO project.

  • Participation in the UNIVERSAL EXHIBITION – MILAN 2015 “Feed the planet – energy for life”.

  • Exhibition of “LINEN BOTTLE BAG” in the Pavillon LILLE 3000 (Palazzo delle Stelline – Milan) with the exhibition theme: Textifood

  • Study of the ideal home for elderly people as well as the creation of furniture suited to their needs, for the Unité de Recherche en Ingénierie et Action Sociale (URIAS) of the Haute Ecole Paul-Henry SPAAK in Brussels.

  • Creation of the Trophy for the “Citizen of Honour of the city of Tournai”.

  • Competition “Tourism Office of Tournai” with the aim of arranging an interior space to improve the visibility of various places such as the boutique, the wifi corner, medieval cellar, etc. Project in progress.

  • Creation of a Trophy to reward the work of 5 “Belgians from the other side of the world”, a radio and television programme of the RTBF, following a request from the Cabinet of Mr Rudy Demotte, Minister-President of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation .
